Size Matters

Many people with city water prefer additional filtration, mainly to remove the chlorine taste/odor from the water. We recommend a properly sized whole house carbon filter for city water customers that can backwash (self-clean). This customer (pictured above) had an in/out carbon filter that was undersized for the home. The in/out head on the tank means that it does not have the ability to clean. The backwashing carbon filter can push out any small debris that may get into the filter. Also, you get more life out of the carbon media. Our recommendation, based on the size of the home and potential water usage, was a 13x54 inch Clack® carbon filter with battery back-up and bypass.

The filtration will need regular service every 2-3 years, which would be to test the water and ensure the mechanical head on the filter is functioning as designed. The carbon media will last approximately 6 years before it needs to be replaced.
