When Sediment Becomes an Issue

ASHEVILLE, NC --

Sediment comes is many shapes and sizes, from very fine dust to chunks of rock. When sediment is present in a water source, we highly recommend some type of sediment filter. Meaning, yes, you have options! However, options are more limited if the sediment is very fine. In some cases, water has a variety of both size and amount of sediment. Sediment can become a real problem when it starts clogging fixtures, filling up in toilet bowls, and tearing up equipment (think "sandblasting"). Sometimes, it goes relatively unnoticed... but it adds up, and can become a problem before you know it.

A settling tank can handle large amounts of sediment but sometimes the very fine stuff sneaks past, requiring a canister filter to be installed after the settling tank. Canister filters can catch even the finest of sediment, but they cannot handle large sediment loads, like a settling tank. If a lot of sediment is in the water, canister filters tend to clog quickly, causing frequent changing and potential pressure issues.

If you suspect that you have sediment in your water, it's important to learn as much as you can about your sediment and treatment options. Feel free to bring us a water sample and we'll test it for free! Also, feel free to contact us between 9am and 3pm (Mon-Thurs) and we can discuss the best option with you.
