Sulfur Filters

Our Sulfur Filters use an engineered carbon based media to remove hydrogen sulfide (h2S) gas commonly referred to as a "Sulfur odor" or a "rotten egg smell" from water. Because they use carbon based media, our sulfur filters have all of the benefits of a carbon filter, in addition to removing hydrogen sulfide.

Benefits of a Sulfur Filter:

∙ No more rotten egg smell

∙ Eliminates black staining caused by hydrogen sulfide

∙ Improves general taste and odor

∙ Removes/reduces VOC's (solvents, pesticides, etc.)

∙ Our valves are self cleaning and programmable

🛈 How it works: Service cycle

➤ Untreated water enters through the valve inlet

➤ Untreated water flows down through the media bed

➤ Hydrogen Sulfide is oxidized to elemental sulfur and trapped in the media bed

➤ Treated water flows up through the riser pipe

➤ Treated water exits through the valve outlet

➤ Media can treat a set amount of water before regeneration is needed

🛈 How it works: regeneration cycle

➤ The water flow is reversed to flush any sulfur and particulates to the drain line

➤ The water flow is returned to the normal direction to repack the media bed

➤ Regeneration frequency depends on water usage and chemistry

Further Reading

The first step in the treatment of hydrogen sulfide is always to determine where the odor is present. Depending on where the odor is present, installation of a sulfur filter may not be the correct method to treat the odor.

See our Sulfur Contaminant Page for more information about where sulfur is commonly found and what the appropriate treatment methods are for each location.

Chemistry of the water can impact the effectiveness of a sulfur filter and must always be factored into the configuration of the filter.
